The annual Saint Helier pilgrimage to the Hermitage takes place on Sunday - the parade sets off from the Town church at 1.30 and crosses the causeway to the Castle from 2pm. After the service and the visit to the Hermitage, there will be tea and musical entertainment.

S'nou veurt d'l'înspithâtion pouor un pèl'rinnage, né v'chîn un cantique tch'est à propos.
If potential pilgrims are in need of encouragement to come along, how about this hymn?

Lé bouôn pèl'rîn
Vé-t-en, té tchi voudrais
vaie un vrai tchoeuthu;
né v'chîn l'chein tchi reste vrai
s'i' bliâse ou vente dû.
Nou n'peut d'aut' lé m'nichi,
nitout l'dêcouothagi,
viyant qu'il est d'avis
d'êt' un bouôn pèl'rîn.

Les gronneurs tchi l'laîss'saient
tout êpithouoté,
font d'la laine: il en s'sait
tout ravigoté.
I' s'en botte d'autchun lion;
nul giant n'lé gêne pon;
i' méthit'ta l'èrnom
d'êt' un bouôn pèl'rîn.

L'ouéthou et l'bélengi
né lî f'thont pon peux;
car i' s'en va gângni
la vie siez l'Bouôn Dgieu.
Cârr'-ous don, niolinn'nies!
I' s'moque dé la moqu'sie!
I' s'en baille toute sa vie
d'êt' un bouôn pèl'rîn.

To be a pilgrim

Who would true valour see,
Let him come hither;
One here will constant be,
Come wind, come weather
There’s no discouragement
Shall make him once relent
His first avowed intent
To be a pilgrim.

Whoso beset him round
With dismal stories
Do but themselves confound;
His strength the more is.
No lion can him fright,
He’ll with a giant fight,
He will have a right
To be a pilgrim.

Hobgoblin nor foul fiend
Can daunt his spirit,
He knows he at the end
Shall life inherit.
Then fancies fly away,
He’ll fear not what men say,
He’ll labour night and day
To be a pilgrim.
